An illuminating and riveting story over a formative time for China. Why is this film so hilighly regarded by Chinese (they are proud of it and describe it as most beautiful) when it covers one of the most bloody and destructive times for China? I suggest that it shows an honest account of what it was like and it also shows the tenacious spirit of the Chinese people – which is something to appreciate and respect. Ultimately, the film is inspirational, there is something to learn and understand in it for everybody.
