This message was conveyed in a number of speeches, it was well received. It is always better to be respectful of others but that in no way means you should stop being proud of who you are and what you believe.
Every nation has complicated histories, some more than others. That is no reason to forget and all the more reason to be respectful, clear, and honest in the present with each other and as a nation. Even introspection of our history is OK but when it gets to censorship or cancelling, that never leads to anything good.
Apologize? Maybe. Apologize to inconstant demands or standards? No!
This was a rare negative spin on something everybody understands ..
Iโd call this a โfar-leftโ perspective but I share here anyhow. Exposure to the thought process is still useful to understand for when ever one is confronted with such thoughts.
